Bungee, Gorge Swing or Zip Line at Victoria Falls Bridge: Which One?
4 min read
Short answer: for the classic, book the Victoria Falls Bridge bungee jump: 111 metres from the bridge between the Zimbabwean and Zambian border posts, from age 14 and for jumpers between 40 and 120 kg. If you are travelling with children aged 6 to 13, or want a ride rather than a fall, the 425 m Bridge Slide zip line takes riders from age six.

Two operators, two places
Shearwater runs the bungee, the bridge swing, the Bridge Slide and the combo from the Victoria Falls Bridge itself. The bridge lies between the Zimbabwean and Zambian border posts, so every one of these pages asks for your passport. The bungee page says you receive a gate pass at the border and should allow an hour before your jump for customs formalities and the walk out. The bungee, swing and slide pages say the site runs daily from 9 am but depends on the spray and the rain.
Wild Horizons runs the three listings with transfers: the gorge swing, its zip line and the flying fox. None of the three pages mentions the bridge; they describe a platform and a cable over the Batoka Gorge, with scheduled pickup from hotels in Victoria Falls town. Each lists a park fee of US$3 per person; ask whether it is part of your price. The zip line gives the same numbers as Shearwater’s Bridge Slide, 425 metres and up to 106 km/h, but has a different age rule; if it matters to you whether it is the same cable, ask Wild Horizons.
Getting there with Shearwater. The Bridge Slide page offers a return transfer for an extra US$12, for at least two people. The bungee page gives the bridge as its meeting point. The bridge swing and combo pages contradict themselves: the summary says pickup is included, while the list below says transfers are not. Ask Shearwater which applies before you count on a ride.
Age, weight and health
- Bungee: from 14; under 18 only with written consent from a parent; 40 to 120 kg. Not for people with back or heart problems, high blood pressure or a fear of heights. The crew screens everyone for fitness.
- Bridge swing: from 14, with the same consent rule; 40 to 180 kg. Not for pregnant women or people with back or heart problems or high blood pressure.
- Bridge Slide: from 6; written consent under 18; no unaccompanied minors; 40 to 140 kg.
- Combo: from 14 for bungee and swing; the page adds a tandem Bridge Slide from age 6 with an adult. Minimum 40 kg; maximum 120 kg for the bungee and 180 kg for the swing and slide.
- Wild Horizons gorge swing: ask about a minimum age; the page says a parent must sign an indemnity for a child under 16, children may need a double harness, and staff may turn away a child who cannot cope. Not for pregnant women or people afraid of heights.
- Wild Horizons zip line: listed as not suitable for children under 16, yet the same page says parents of a child under 16 must be present to sign an indemnity. Ask Wild Horizons which rule applies before you book for a teenager.
- Flying fox: maximum 140 kg; not for pregnant women, people with back problems or a fear of heights.
With a child between 6 and 13, that leaves Shearwater’s Bridge Slide, with a parent’s written consent, as the clear option at the bridge. For Wild Horizons’ gorge swing and flying fox, ask the operator about a minimum age.
Which one for whom
Bungee is what people mean by “the Victoria Falls bridge jump”. You jump from the bridge itself, 111 metres above the water, and the crew hoists you back up to the catwalk below the bridge.
Swings drop you and then let you swing out over the river. Shearwater’s bridge swing starts with an upright step off the bridge and offers tandem falls if you do not want to go alone. Wild Horizons’ gorge swing is a separate platform with a 70-metre fall and includes the drive from your hotel.
Zip line and flying fox give you speed and the view without the fall. The Bridge Slide crosses from Zambia to Zimbabwe at up to 106 km/h. The flying fox is slower: you lie flat in the harness and the page stresses the gentle pace and the view of the rapids.
The combo makes sense only if you want all three; compare its price with the single activities you would otherwise book.
If heights are not your thing, the calmer way to see the gorge is from the air: our helicopter guide compares five flights, and white-water rafting puts you in the gorge instead of above it.
Our recommendation
For most visitors who want one adrenaline moment: the bridge bungee jump. Bring your passport and allow an hour for the border. If you are under 14, or travelling with younger children, choose the Bridge Slide instead. More options are on our adventure page.
